Why the Church Needs Apostles Today

Apostles today! An explosive topic in today’s Christian world. In the past we have seen weak and half measures to fix what is broken in the church. But it is time to put these ineffective measures aside and accept God’s mandate for the church: He is sending living apostles into the church with apostolic authority just as we would expect the apostles of Jesus Christ.

Apostolic ministry begins with God’s call. This 4 part series answers the question “Why do we need apostles today,” talks about apostolic grace and authority, and helps believers gain a much needed understanding of what an apostle is and does.

Parts 3 and 4 of this series Apostle Eric shares with us how God placed upon him the apostolic calling.

Apostles Today

The Church has been asking, “Why do we need apostles if we already have pastors and teachers to guide the Church?” We would also have to ask, “Why did God send Moses if Aaron was already in Egypt?” “Why did God send prophets if God had the priests and Levites in place to guide the children of Israel?” By biblical example we can see that God has a purpose for each calling and that one calling does not replace another.

The Church IS asking, “Why do we need apostles” because believers have become painfully aware of their absence. For the past 20 years, God has brought to the attention of the Body of Christ what He is about to do in restoring apostles to the Church.

What calling do we see functioning predominantly throughout the book of Acts? The apostle's office, of course, is the calling that we see in leadership throughout the book of Acts. It is quite obvious that apostles instructed Christians in doctrine and also wrote the epistles.

What callings do we see predominantly in the Church today? It is the callings of the pastor and the teacher that we see most predominantly giving structure to the Church today.

When we read Eph.4:l1, “And He (Jesus) gave some, apostles, and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers,” we see that the callings of pastor and teacher are indeed important in the government of God.

But the government of God does not BEGIN with these offices. The government of God BEGINS with apostles. I Cor.12:28, “And God has set some in the Church, FIRST apostles...” God is restoring the ORDER of spiritual government.
